Sure, diversity is good. But if you have to choose between social cohesion and diversity, dump diversity:

People who celebrate diversity (and its parallel, multiculturalism) are endorsing only one part of what it means to be a complete human being, neglecting morality (and its parallel, group and national pride). Just as we cannot be whole persons if we deny the fundamental rights of others, so we cannot be whole persons if we live in ways that discourage decency, cooperation, and charity.

I mentioned this study before, but the article I'm linking here is better and more interesting.

This debate is all the more interesting I think when you consider where the push for diversity comes from. Anecdotally, let's take Boulder for example... 90% wealthy and white, but the push for diversity is clearly evident. But how can income (at the least) ever be diverse with the housing policies and open space programs implimented?

The cynic in me is tempted to think that much of the diversity talk comes from folks who have almost no experience with it, especially as this article points out in the face of crumbling existing homogeneous social institutions.

Heck if you want diversity go live in South East Texas...you'll get every group you could ever want :-)
